London Bridge Hospital turns 30!

London Bridge Hospital turns 30!

Our beloved hospital has turned 30 this year! In order to celebrate this milestone we decided to pay homage with some words from our staff. In this blog post we feature Holly Wilkinson, Marketing Manager.

How long have you been working for London Bridge Hospital?

Five years in total

What has been your highlight so far?

Opening the new facility at The Shard this year was a major highlight!

Do you have a memorable patient story that you wish to share?

A few years ago we facilitated a wedding between a patient and his long term partner on the oncology ward. We brought in the Southwark Registrar last minute, the catering team made a cake, and both Dr Harries and staff were present as witnesses. I was privileged to take photographs of them to keep to remember this day. It was a very emotional time, and a reminder of the amazing work that we do in the hospital.

What do you think has been the hospital’s greatest achievement in the past 30 years?

The unprecedented growth in the last 30 years – in particular opening the new centre in The Shard – which everyone undertook whilst simultaneously running the hospital!

Where do you see the hospital in 30 years’ time?

At the forefront of medical innovation and research on the world stage! But still providing the best care possible for our patients.

What has been your most memorable occasion whilst working here?

I was lucky enough to watch live cardiac surgery with Mr Chris Young and Alan Rayner a few years ago. This was one of the most inspirational four hours of my life!

What personal achievements have you accomplished whilst working at LBH?

I started here in the Medical Secretariat five years ago and was given the opportunity to change careers and start in Marketing. Since then I have been encouraged and invested in to advance my career and progress through the department. Along the way I have done a professional qualification in Marketing and numerous other courses that have got me where I am today.

What piece of advice would you give to any new members of staff?

Make the most of every opportunity you’re given and always find the positive in any situation.

Do you have a birthday wish for the hospital?

To successfully open LBH at Guy’s next year!
