HCA UK at The Shard , 32 St Thomas Street , London, SE1 9BS

The Dietetics and Nutrition Service at London Bridge Hospital specialises in robust, clinical based nutritional analysis and offers complete, personalised programmes for individuals looking for dietary support.

Our dietitians are among the most specialised in the UK. All are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and are members of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Working with both inpatients and outpatients, they regularly monitor the nutritional needs of those with complex conditions and design intricate diet plans to rehabilitate them to full strength.

For external clients, our dietitian led clinics take place in our The Shard Diagnosis and Treatment Centre and provide one to one appointments for:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Irritable Bowel Disorders (Crohn’s, Ulcerative, Colitis)
  • Functional bowel disorders
  • Coeliac disease
  • Diverticular disease
  • Pancreatic diseases
  • High cholesterol
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Weight management

Clinically evidenced diagnostics and dietary management

We offer research led diagnostics and dietary programmes to diagnose, treat and manage gastrointestinal symptoms related to irritable bowel syndrome. Services include:

Hydrogen breath testing (HBT)

A simple non-invasive diagnostic tool for those with IBS and/or food intolerances. An HBT can identify possible factors affecting bowel conditions, such as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, or sugar intolerances.

An HBT must be prescribed by a registered doctor and the prescription sent to the Dietetics and Nutrition team in advance of testing.

FODMAP Diet

FODMAP stands for, Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols – a group of short-chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed.

Our dietitians have a programme designed to eliminate certain foods typically high in FODMAPs that can cause abdominal pain, which is then followed by a reintroduction plan to assess tolerance levels. The low FODMAP diet is scientifically proven to be effective in those experiencing irritable bowel syndrome.

All our dietitians are accredited in the low FODMAP diet and create personalised plans dependent on individual needs.
