Lung cancer is the second most common cancer after breast cancer, around 40,000 people are diagnosed each year in the UK. This week the BBC reported that reserarchers at Kings College London had found that people with lung cancer will double by 2040 from 65,000 to 137,000. This number will disproportionately affect women. Awareness about breast cancer affecting women is widely known, but lung cancer actually causes more death in women than breast cancer. Sadly, it has been reported that rates of lung cancer in women continue to rise.

The MHRA advised that they found no evidence to support routine removal of PIP breast implants and they recommended that any patients who were concerned about their implant should seek clinical advice from their consultant surgeon.
